Rohingya Refugee Camps, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh

There are thousands of Rohingya youth in Cox’s Bazar’s refugee camps who finished their high school and college in Myanmar. In the refugee camps, they are not able to pursue higher education because of deprivation and restriction imposed by the Bangladeshi authorities against Rohingya refugees. By aiming to empower those Rohingya youth and to spark their curiosity toward knowledge and higher education, we opened two libraries in Balukhali and Kutupalong refugee camps in 2019.

We rented two spaces inside the shelter of volunteers in the refugee camps. We offer an estimated 300 copies of books such as biographies, novels, poetry collections and English skill books in English, Burmese and Rohingya languages. Libraries are open days from Saturday to Thursday from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Our libraries provide space for youth to connect each other while reading books help them inspire toward non-violence and learn about the world history and contexts.
